Playing Mind Games with Urkel
Just like the TV version of Curtain Call, we're discovering that the best moments on our radio show are completely unplanned and unscripted. During Sunday's show, we were having so much fun with magician and mentalist Steve Wallach, who's entertaining restaurant guests at two of Resorts Casino Hotel's restaurants, that we decided to hold him over through the 4 p.m. hour. We had also scheduled actor Jaleel White to call the show right after the news break. We put Jaleel ("Steve Urkel" from TV's Family Matters) on the spot and asked him, on the fly, if he'd mind if Wallach used him as the subject of some of his card tricks and other mind games. Not only did Jaleel not mind, but he really got into it, so much so that the interview we ended up doing turned out to be anti-climatic to the head games. Wallach had never met White, and claimed he didn't know who White was (although he had heard of the Urkel character). Fortunately, we had four video cameras in the studio hoping we could turn the radio show into a TV show. Here's one of those impromptu moments between Steve Wallach in the studio and Jaleel White at his home 3,000 miles away.
